Code of Conduct

In 2021, UMIACS voted to adopt the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct as its own. The Code is designed to inspire and guide the ethical conduct of all computing professionals, including current and aspiring practitioners, instructors, students, influencers, and anyone who uses computing technology in an impactful way. Additionally, the Code serves as a basis for remediation when violations occur. It includes principles formulated as statements of responsibility, based on the understanding that the public good is always the primary consideration.

Allegations of violations of the UMIACS code of conduct can be made directly to the UMIACS director or to the UMIACS Director of Business Operations, or to relevant campus authorities (CMNS Dean’s office, Faculty Affairs, Human Resources, the Graduate School, Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct, or the Office of Diversity and Inclusion). Allegations of mis-conduct received by UMIACS will be investigated and addressed in conjunction with the relevant campus authorities, and according to campus, state, and federal policies. Substantiated allegation of misconduct will result in disciplinary action.
